Inspired by the mesmerizing bioluminescence of the Ghost Fungus (Omphalotus nidiformis), Dance of the Ghost Fungus is a luminous artwork celebrating the hidden networks of nature and the countless ecosystems displaced by the GreenWay.
Installed on either side of the Davis Street Tunnel interior, artist Floria Tosca created a series of backlit illustrations of ghost fungus, realised by Axolotl on Graphite Lustre glass. The installation stretches 8 metres wide on each side, with four 1-metre panels per wall positioned at eye level, inviting commuters and pedestrians to experience a moment of quiet wonder as they pass through the tunnel.
The artwork glows with a vibrant gradient — bright yellow at the top fading into vivid lime green below — echoing the natural luminescence of the fungus itself. Clusters of abstract circular and organic forms emerge across the glass: some small like bubbling foam, others larger with dotted and striped textures that hint at delicate internal gills spilling from shell-like shapes. Together, the composition creates the feeling of an immersive, underwater landscape alive with light and movement.
