JACKY TSAI

Jacky Tsai is a multidimensional Chinese artist based in London. Spanning from traditional canvas to NFT real-time based digitals, Tsai’s artworks integrate Eastern ideology and cultural symbols with Western Pop art icons and motifs, creating alternative narratives and realities by constantly reflecting on ours. Through unifying the differences and similarities between cultures, Tsai’s works provoke viewers to rethink intercultural relationship and aim to establish tension as well as harmony between cultural representations. Many of his works explore classical Chinese artistry, enabling his works to bring focus onto the exquisite yet forsaken craftsmanship. These various mediums act as devices to present his work in past, present and future tenses, emphasising the residue of time.

In recent years, Tsai’s internationally acclaimed success in digital art field has led him to becoming the first Asian artist to transform his art into new blockchain technology digital art. Many of Tsai’s kinetic artworks are also real-time based programmable art which respond to live events. In October 2022, he was awarded “Artist of the Year” by Digital Art Fair in Hong Kong, celebrating his 10 years of traditional as well as digital art triumph. Collaborating with Sotheby’s Hong Kong, Tsai’s all-encompassing series of works combining his traditional forms and digital art were unprecedentedly auctioned off.

Tsai studied for his BA at the China Academy of Art before moving to London to study at Central Saint Martin’s. His work has been exhibited worldwide, with key exhibitions in London, Moscow, Hong Kong, New York, Singapore, and Shanghai. In February 2018, Tsai’s first retrospective exhibition opened at the prestigious Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA). In 2022, Tsai’s “Life·Fantasy” exhibition opened at Fosun Foundation Shanghai, which marked his first major museum exhibition in mainland China. In the near future, Tsai’s works will be seen at The Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning Exhibition in Shenzhen, MOCA in Bangkok and Fosun Foundation in Chengdu.
