Description: With a focus on delivering unique and captivating pieces, AAP partnered closely with acclaimed designer Adam Goodrum and Broached Commissions to craft “Whorl”, an inspiring dichroic glass mobile.
Adam Goodrum has played a central role in the decorative arts language of The Atrium, hotel reception and arrival concourse from the porte cochere. His works are all inspired by the orchid flower, which is a homage to the famous Australian naturalist Edith Coleman who discovered how orchids are pollinated.
Floating in the upper void of the glass roofed atrium, scattered orchid petals in varying shapes and sizes form an irregular canopy as if caught in an updraught. Made of dichroic glass, the petals form a loose cluster, appearing light and ephemeral. The petals themselves change colour depending on the angle of observation while casting coloured shadows on the wall; a relationship that is also affected by the direction and intensity of the dominant light source, which is natural sunlight during the day and introduced lighting at night.
Each glass petal was meticulously shaped, laminated and polished in glass. With custom hardware design factory fitted and tested prior to delivery and installation on site.
